Preamble:
The men all live in Castellammare, specifically in a small village there called "Balata di Baida".
According to Italian police, on Baria street, there is a group of people the majority of whom are convicts or relatives of convicts of the worst case, who are never punished. The center of the territory is the house of Giuseppe Ingaglia, 30, at the top of Sparagis Hill.
Giuseppe Ingaglia, bandit leader, is the son of Stefano Ingaglia, 50. Both men have been arrested for harboring a band of brigands known as the Adragna gang.
The other leaders of the gang are:
Giuseppe Bonanno, 45, son of Giuseppe, prospector from Castellammare.
Antonino Tagliaria, 32, son of Agostino, a landowner from Monte S. Giuliano, residing in Trapani
Vito Castiglione, 30, son of Angelo, peasant of Monte S. Giuliano, living at Custonaci
Pietro Rondello, 35, son of Francesco, peasant of Castellammare
Martino Buccellato, 31, son of Giovanni, peasant of Castellammare
Giovanni Buccellato, 55, son of Felice, peasant of Castellammare
Salvatore Buccellato, 52, son of Felice, peasant of Castellammare
Vincenzo Giallo, 30, son of Giuseppe, peasant of Castellammare
Vito Giallo, 37, son of Giuseppe, peasant of Castellammare

1894-09-30 - Beginning September 30th and continuing through October 1st, Giuseppe Bonanno and Stefano Ingaglia steal three animals from Vito Lombardo on Azzarola Street.
1896-02-04 - A horse is stolen during the evening from the Castle of Baria, where Vito Castiglione passed the night with his brother-in-law Giuallo, leaving the same day, riding the stolen horse, owned by Gioacchino Gervasi, 47, son of Vincenzo
from Monte San Giuliano. Crime reported to the Carabineiri 1896-02-07.
1896-03-15 - A donkey is stolen near the home of Giuseppe Bonanno, belonging to Antonio Cirolando, 45, who lives on Azzarola Street.
1896-09-05 - A dog is stolen on the night of the 5th or early on the 6th from Gioacchino Navarra, son of Leonardo, who lives in Sarmioi Street in Castellammare
1896-10-?? - Girolamo Asaro, Martino Buccellato and Stefano Ingaglia meet a few days before committing the crime in the store of Ingaglia, which is situated on Busuri street (perhaps Buonriposo Street) and then and there decided to rid themselves of Costa Giuseppe, as they considered him friendly to the police force, members of which often met at his house, near the mill in Baria Street. They drew lots and it fell to Martino Buccellato to put the decision into effect. Asaro contiuually remained around that locality
having a brother-in-law there and also owning a small property on Barile Street which is only two kilometers distant from the place of the killing of Costa.
1896-10-04 - Girolamo Asaro, son of Mariano, of Castellammare, in Castellammare, Italy, directed Martino Buccellato, son of Giovanni, to murder Giuseppe Costa, son of Salvatore and Vincenza Garofala, deliberately and with pre-meditated design, with
a shotgun on Baria Street, around 8pm, outside Giuseppe Costa's home. Giuseppe Costa was the guard for the mill which bordered the property of Giuseppe Ingagli, local mafia leader. Martino Buccellato allegedly hid in the vines and waited for GIuseppe
Costa to re-enter Costa's house, at which point Buccellato shot him outside the door. Giuseppe Costa's wife, Luisa Gervasi, said Giuseppe Ingaglia was angry that Giuseppe Costa had cut down some vines of Ingaglia and that Ingaglia had threatened
Costa while Costa went to Monaco Mountain. Additionally Costa refused to allow certain cheese to be stolen which Stefano Ingaglia wanted and additionally had made Vincenzo Milano and Vincenzo Giallo return to Francesco Pilara property stolen by
Milano and Gallo from Pilara himself, and had also intervened in a dog stolen by Salvatore Buccellato from Francesco Pilara. ; immediately after the killing Ingaglia pretended to kiss the corpse of his victim, and afterwards turned away until he was
spoken to by a sister of Costa.
1896-10-05 - At 7pm on Baria Street in Castellammare, Attorney Carmelo Li Donno, Magistrate of Castellammare advised that there is a body, and takes carbineri to investigate. Pietro Fillipano, 33 year old doctor, investigated the body. Witnesses
interrogated were Giuseppe Camarda, 37, father was Michele, of Castellammare, and Antonio Russo, 42, son of the late Domenico, of Castellammare who agree that the body is that of Giuseppe Costa. Costa has been shot with a shotgun on his left
side, at close range, roughly 12m away.
1896-10-06 - Salvatore Buccellato arrested around 11, GIovanni Buccellato arrested around 9
1896-10-07 - Stefano Ingaglia arrested around 2, Vincenzo Milano arrested as well.
1897-08-?? - 2 o'clock of August —, 1897, the above named Antonino Costa, brother of the deceased as he was returning from Castellammare and having arrived at Dagolasecca Street, met the brother of Martino Buccellato, whose name is
Felice, 26 years old, who on being greeted said : "How dare you greet me you dog of a spy, you have made me lose a brother worth his weight in gold" and so saying he whipped out a knife, and asked said Costa to follow him as he wished to speak to
him, saying, "You wretch, now I shall show you who I am." Gaspare Arena interfered preventing Buccellato Felice from committing the crime, saying "we will see about it by and by". Felice Buccellato before going said to those present "Act like men
or I shall fix it for you." Felice is later charged with making threats against Antonino Costa.
1898-07-12 - Sentenced pronounced on Asaro in Italy, the Public Prosecutor hereby commands and directs any and all police officers to arrest and lock in the State Prison of Trapani, Asaro Girolamo, son of the late Mariano, 38 years old, of
Castellammare, a fugitive. Charged with participating in intentional premeditated homicide, in that with the intent of killing and with pre-meditation, he, together with others, directed one, Buccellate Martino, since dead, to murderously
shoot, on the night of October the 4th, 1896, on Baida Street (Territory of Castellammare, one, Giuseppe Costa, thereby killing him instantly. Article 63, Lints 364-366 n. 2 Penal Code.) Warrant for arrest issued.
1898-12-03 - Girolamo Asaro is sentenced in absence, to life by the Court of Assizes of Trapani by the Presiding Justice in public audience. Martino Buccellato is apparently already dead.
It is hereby also commanded to all officers of the Police power to lend all aid for the execution of this warrant in case of need. It further commands to the warden of the prison of the above said city, to receive said person persuant to law.

1908-03-09 - [New York City] Vincenzo Fudera is arrested on a charge of being a suspicious person and of sending a threatening letter to one Carlo Stea, and is given bail in the sum of $500 pending his arraignment upon such charge. Fudera is
believed to be the same person known as Girolamo Asaro, a fugitive from justice in Italy, charged with murder. Detective Ralph Micelli says that at 3:30 on the ninth he arrested Asaro and Asaro admitted that was his real name. Asaro says
that he arrived in this country February 1902, was six years in this country. Arrived in the Port of New York under the same name. His father's name is Giuseppe and his mother's name is Anna Sarcona, and that he lives at 10 Prince Street.
1908-03-10 - [New York City] Joseph Petrosino, being duly sworn, swears before John A. Shields, US Commissioner for the Southern District of NY - "I am a detective-sergeant with the rank of lieutenant in the Police Department of the City of New York :
on information and belief that a certain person arrested as Vincenzo Fudera on March 9th, 1908 at New York City on a charge of being a suspicious person and of sending a threatening letter to one Carlo Stea, and now on bail in the sum of $500
pending his arraignment upon such charge, is the same person known as Girolamo Asaro, a fugitive from Justice of the Kingdom of Italy charged with murder, and that the said name Vincenzo Fudera is an alias and false name of the said Girolamo Asaro afore
said that the sources of deponent's information and the grounds of his belief are knowledge obtained in deponent's professional work, official and other descriptions, and papers and documents in the possession or under the control of the Authorities.

Dondero go to 237 Elizabeth Street, a saloon, around 9:30pm. Petrosino walks in and asks Girolamo Asaro to come over, and Asaro answers to that name. Petrosino arrests Asaro. Warrant issued by Italy for extradition.
1908-03-15 - Details of the case filed. That Girolamo Asaro, son of Mariano, of Castellammare, Kingdom of Italy, did heretofore on or about October 4th, 1896, at Castellammare, within the Kingdom of Italy, and within the jursidiction of
Italy, as to the offence therein stated in and upon the person of Giuseppe Costa, in conjunction with others at said place and time as aforesaid , commit the crime of murder in that he did at the said time and place in the Kingdom
of Italy, as aforesaid, feoniously, wilfully and with malice aforethought kill the said Giuseppe Costa from a deliberate and premeditated design to effect the death of the person so killed with a gun or other deadly weapon against the peace
and government of the said Kingdom of Italy, and in violation of the provisions of the Penal Code of the Laws of the Kingdom of Italy ; that the said Girolamo Asaro is now within the territory of the United 7 States and within the County of
New York, in the State of New York; that the crime with which the said Girolamo Asora stands charged as aforesaid would justify his apprehension for commitment and trial for the said crime if the same had been committed within the Southern District
of New York, or within the jurisdiction of the District Court of the United States for the Southern District of New York
1908-06-11 - Fudera's trial begins US Circuit Court for the Southern District of New York. Petrosino later says he went down to Ellis Island and examined the records himself, and found that one Girolana Asaro arrived here at the port of New York on
the 30th day of October, 1903, and that was the only Girolano Asaro that I see on that record that landed here up to this date that record shows. Asaro allegedly went to stay at 243 Elizabeth Street. Vito Vasile testifies that he is from Castellammare
and the man in question is VIncenzo Fudiara, not Girolamo Asaro. Appears on his naturalization papers that Asaro put his arrival at February 22nd, 1903.
1908-06-29 - Girolamo Asaro aka Vincenzo Fudera is granted $2500 bail, insured by Carlo Costantino, 778 Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn, who puts up buildings at 253 East 31st in Brooklyn as surety. Antonio Bagarozy, 375 Broome Street, puts up a property at
192 Elizabeth Street in New York City that he bought in 1907, and said he only has money out for one other bond, Paolo Novarso $2000.
1908-07-13 - Italian government via Consul Raybaudi Massiglia provides notice of appeal to Asaro's granting of bail 1908-06-29.

1908-06-11 - Fudera's trial begins US Circuit Court for the Southern District of New York. Petrosino later says he went down to Ellis Island and examined the records himself, and found that one Girolana Asaro arrived here at the port of New York on
the 30th day of October, 1903, and that was the only Girolano Asaro that I see on that record that landed here up to this date that record shows. Asaro allegedly went to stay at 243 Elizabeth Street. Vito Vasile testifies that he is from Castellammare
and the man in question is VIncenzo Fudiara, not Girolamo Asaro. Appears on his naturalization papers that Asaro put his arrival at February 22nd, 1903.
1908-06-29 - Girolamo Asaro aka Vincenzo Fudera is granted $2500 bail, insured by Carlo Costantino, 778 Myrtle Avenue in Brooklyn, who puts up buildings at 253 East 31st in Brooklyn as surety. Antonio Bagarozy, 375 Broome Street, puts up a property at
192 Elizabeth Street in New York City that he bought in 1907, and said he only has money out for one other bond, Paolo Novarso $2000.
1908-07-13 - Italian government via Consul Raybaudi Massiglia provides notice of appeal to Asaro's granting of bail 1908-06-29.
1908-07-14 - Right to Appeal from 1908-07-13 granted.
1908-07-16 - Appeal received by court
1908-07-17 - Girolamo Asaro is given 30 days to appear at the Supreme Court within 30 days of this writ, August 17th, 1908, to appear and show cause why he should not be extradited.
